Yamunotri Trek

For Yamunotri Temple visit one has to cover the trek of 6 kms one way. The trek goes through beautiful valley, mountains covered with dense trees and sweet smelling flowers, beautiful landscapes. According to comfort one can hire, pony, doli or Pithu during the Yatra. Gangotri route is easy as straight transport is available to temple. For third Dham visit i.e. Kedarnath one has to cover 18 kms one way trek. Again Doli, Pithu and Pony services are available on the way. For more comfort and limited time one can also visit Kedarnath Temple Yatra by helicopter. For Badrinath Temple visit there are direct transport options available.

Char Dham yatra generally starts from last week of April or first week of May. The dates of Char Dham Opening are decided as follows:

Yamunotri: Opening dates on the occasion of Akshay Tritya each year &  Yamunotri shrine closed on the day of Bhai Dooj

 Gangotri: Gangotri temple opens its gates on the occasion of Akshay Tritya each year. The shrine closed its gates for pilgrims on the day after of Diwali.

 Kedarnath: Opening dates decided on Mahashivratri every year & shrine closed on the day of Bhai Dooj.

Badrinath: Opening dates decided on Basant Panchami & closing date decided on Vijaydashmi every yerar.

  •  Yamunotri Temple remains open from 06:00 AM to 08:00 PM.
  • Gangotri Temple timings are 06:15 AM to 09:30 PM.

Kedarnath Temple is open from 05:00 AM to 03:00 PM.

Badrinath Temple timings are 4:30 AM to 03:00 PM.

May/June is the peak season of Yatra and the rush and crowd also remains at its peak during these months. July/August due to Monsoon although the Yatra keeps on going but the number of pilgrims decrease. September till Yatra closing, yatra again gains the devotees visit.

Yes the registration is required for the Yatra and can be done easily from different registration counter. For registration original government approved id mentioning address and other details like Adhaar card/voter card is required. Plan Our Travels representative/accompanying driver will assist you to get that. To avoid long queue it is recommended to do it online.

To cover the Char Dham comfortably you would require 12 days if starting/landing from Delhi & 11 days if doing it from Haridwar. For more comfortable you can also do the yatra by Helicopter to Kedarnath which will save your 1 days and also make the yatra more comfortable. As Char Dhams are in Himalaya hills, weather can change any time and hence it is recommended to keep a day extra in case of any road blockage/late etc.

You can start your Char Dham yatra from Delhi.

Haridwar in state of Uttarakhand is the first starting point of the Yatra, which is well connected with Railway & Roads. Nearest airport is Jollygrant around 38 kms which has good connection of flights from Delhi.

From Haridwar Char Dhams the Yatra can be done by Road & Helicopter to Kedarnath from Sitapur/phata. One may also do the complete Char Dham by private Helicopter in shortest time, but the price goes on higher side if private tour by helicopter is opted.

Yamnotri Yatra: 6 Kms Trek one way is to be covered for Yamnotri. Trek can be done by foot, there are services of pony, Doli, Pithu are also available for the ease of the pilgrims. The rates start from 1500-2000 and are negotiable on spot.

Gangotri: Yatra of Gangotri is easy and  temple can be reached by road.

For healthy persons age is not the barred can be done 5 to 75 of any age group. For Child & Senior citizens pony, doli, Pithu are available on trek routes. Helicopter facility available for Kedarnath. The whole Yatra can also be done by Private Helicopter.

Yes the Yatra is safe, for Senior citizens and grandparent’s comfort there are pony, doli services are available. Medical and first aid facilities are also available. But it is always recommendable to take your doctors approval and health checkup before commencing the yatra. At high altitudes especially in Kedarnat­­h oxygen level decreases. It is advised to keep necessary medicines prescribed by your doctors and his advice before commencing the Yatra. The roads have been broadened and rescue team is always remains well alert for any emergency like road blockage etc for the maximum comfort of pilgrims.

Char Dham is among most popular Yatra sector among pilgrims in India. There are comfortable hotels and stay option available during the routes of Yatra. At Badrinath you will get few famous hotel chains like Sarovar. But one should always keep in mind that the sector is hilly and with seasonal operation on hotels hence the hotels and services can’t compared with the hotels and chains of planes.

It is not recommended to take a new born baby or baby below 5 years. Reason being at some high altitude places oxygen level decreases and weather keeps on changing from warmer to colder and is hard for a baby to adjust with. But yes you can cover the Yatra by Helicopter in shortest time with the baby 2 yrs and above.

As the temperature at hilly areas drops at night, weather may keep on changing hence keep your warm clothes, gloves, rain coat, umbrella, Vaseline, winter cream, blanket, trek shoes, warm socks, all necessary medicines and go through your health checkup. Don’t carry expensive ornaments and articles with you in the yatra.

Yes the Char Dham Yatra can be done in winter. During the winter season after closing the main shrines the Idols of shrines are shifted to their respective winter resting places. You can visit those places and seek the blessing from there. The name of their winter seats are as Yamunotri – at Kharsali, Gangotri at Mukhba, Kedarnath at Ukhimath in Omkareshwer and Badrinath at Joshimath in Narsingh temple. Winters is a great time to visit the Himalayas and it’s  strikingly enchanting view of the snow peaks and mountains.
